Energy Saving Products: What Is Available to Consumers?

When it comes to energy saving products, you have a lot to choose from. Some of these purchases may be small and easy to implement. Some of them may require you to plan ahead. No matter how many energy saving devices you choose to buy, you need to do your research to be sure your investment is going to yield a return.

Compact Fluorescent Bulbs
Perhaps the first thing that people think of when they start to look for energy savings products are low energy light bulbs. Energy efficient light bulbs are very popular and they are one of the easiest ways to become more energy efficient. Compact fluorescent bulbs are readily available at major hardware stores and grocery stores. They have an average lift of approximately five years, but their lifespan can be significantly shortened with frequent use.

LED Light Bulbs
CFLs aren’t the only choice when it comes to energy saving light bulbs. LED light bulbs are more expensive at the offset but actually cost less money over time. They last five times longer than CFL bulbs and don’t have the harsh fluorescent light effect that CFLs can cause. LED lights are also mercury free, unlike CFLs.

Battery chargers are also an energy saving product choice. Approximately 230 million products that have battery chargers are considered to be energy efficient. If you are purchasing an appliance with its own battery charger, be sure to look for the Energy Star label.

Energy Efficient Appliances
Some energy saving products may require a bit more planning and budgeting. After all, most people can’t run out and buy a new refrigerator, freezer or clothes washer at the drop of a hat. Dishwashers, room air conditioners and ceiling fans can also be energy saving products. When you are shopping for these items you should look for Energy Star logos. Contrary to popular belief, Energy Star is a not a brand but a label that designates a qualification of energy savings.

You can also use energy saving products when you remodel your home. Central A/C and furnaces can be a huge source of energy draining in your home. Inefficient heating and cooling systems can cost you hundreds of dollars each year. If you’re replacing your heating and cooling system, be sure to look for an energy efficient model that carries the Energy Star logo. The same goes for heat pumps, hot water heaters, ventilating fans and dehumidifiers. All of these products can be purchased to be more energy efficient.

This list just scratches the surface of the energy efficient products that are available today. More and more are becoming available on the market, which will save you money and help conserve energy usage.
